Thank You, OC Japan Fair: Looking Back on Our Last Pop-Up of 2026
Our final pop-up of the year is officially over! 🇯🇵🤍
Thank you to everyone who came to see us on Nakamise Street at OC Japan Fair in Costa Mesa, everyone who supported us on Instagram, and everyone who discovered Second Bloom Tokyo for the first time this weekend.
A Weekend That Almost Didn't Happen
The fair was planned for three days, from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18. Friday ended up being canceled because of the Santa Ana winds.
If you don't live in Southern California, the Santa Ana winds might be new to you. They're strong, hot, very dry winds that blow from the deserts inland toward the coast, mostly in fall and winter. They can bring sudden gusts and a high risk of wildfires, so outdoor events here sometimes have to stop for safety. It was disappointing, but it was the right call.
Saturday and Sunday went ahead, and the time we spent with you over the weekend meant so much to us. 🌸
Why These Conversations Matter
At every pop-up, someone stops to touch the silk, or tells me about a kimono their grandmother wore, or asks what an obi actually is. Every kind word reminds me why I started this mission.
Many people outside Japan don't know how many kimono are sitting unworn in closets there, or how many are thrown away each year. I wrote more about that in Why Millions of Japanese Kimono Sit Unworn in Closets. I know I still have a lot to learn about sharing the challenges facing kimono today and why preserving this part of Japan's cultural heritage matters. I'm excited to keep growing alongside this brand and all of you.
