The Hidden Reality of Kimono

More than 30 million kimono are believed to remain in Japan, many carefully stored away but rarely worn today. Others are quietly discarded every year, causing irreplaceable stories, memories, and craftsmanship to be lost forever.

No one to inherit them

No place to wear them

Every Kimono Holds a Story

A kimono is more than just clothing. It has often been part of life's most meaningful moments, from weddings to coming-of-age ceremonies. Every piece carries memories and a story worth preserving. Behind every kimono is a life, a family, and moments that can never be replaced.

The Arrival of a New Life

A New Beginning

Why Upcycling Instead of Storing?

Kimono are rarely worn today because they are difficult to wear, costly to maintain, and no longer suited to modern lifestyles. With fewer opportunities for younger generations to wear them, we wanted to create something that fits naturally into everyday life.

1

From Japan to My Studio

Authentic vintage kimono are carefully sourced in Japan and selected for their craftsmanship, condition, and beauty before being brought to my studio in the United States.

2

Gentle Cleaning & Fabric Inspection

Each kimono is gently cleaned and thoroughly inspected for color bleeding, damage, and fabric integrity before moving forward.

3

Low-Temperature Pressing

The fabric is carefully pressed at a low temperature to preserve its delicate fibers while restoring its natural structure.

4

Precision Cutting

Each piece is individually measured and cut so the most beautiful parts of the kimono pattern are highlighted in the pocket design.

5

Reinforcement for Durability

A lightweight interfacing is applied to strengthen the fabric while keeping it soft, stable, and wearable over time.

6

Handcrafted Sewing

Each pocket is carefully sewn onto the T-shirt with precise stitching, ensuring clean alignment and refined finishing.

7

Final Quality Check

Every piece is inspected for stitching quality, pocket placement, and overall finish before it is approved for shipment.
