Our Next Chapter Starts October 26 on Kickstarter 🌸
Something special is coming on October 26! 🌸🇯🇵
What if a beautiful vintage kimono could have a second life? That question is where Second Bloom Tokyo started, and it's still the reason behind everything we make. This month we're taking our next step.
Where It Started
Earlier this year, we ran our first Kickstarter campaign. 26 backers decided to support an idea from a small brand they had mostly never heard of, and that support is what made our first kimono pocket shirts possible. I still think about that often.
If you've never used Kickstarter, here's how it works. A creator shares a project and sets a funding goal. People who want to see it happen pledge money, and in return they get a reward, usually the thing being made. Kickstarter is all-or-nothing, so if the goal isn't reached by the deadline, nobody is charged and the project doesn't go ahead. For a small brand like ours, it's a way to find out whether people really want something before we cut into precious fabric.
Why a Sweatshirt? 🤍
The idea is the same as before: a pocket cut from authentic vintage Japanese kimono fabric, so a small piece of Japan's history becomes something you can wear every day. This time it's on a sweatshirt, in white, gray and black.
As the weather gets colder, a sweatshirt is something people reach for again and again. That matters to us. A kimono that sits folded in a drawer can't tell its story, but fabric that gets worn every week keeps being seen.
Because every kimono is different, no two pockets are the same. The pattern, the colors and even the way the silk has aged depend on the kimono it came from.
Launching October 26 🗓️
The campaign goes live on Kickstarter on October 26. You can find it here: our Kickstarter campaign page. The link is also in our Instagram bio at @secondbloomtokyo.
Every kimono deserves a second life, and every little bit of support means the world to us. Even sharing the campaign with a friend helps more than you might think.
Thank you for being part of our journey! 🤍
Wear the story. Save a Kimono.
