Sakura Chirashi, Scattered Cherry Blossoms
Small, five-petaled blossoms drift freely across the ivory silk in no fixed row or direction, some caught mid-bloom with a scatter of tiny dots at their centers, as though petals were still settling where they fell. Known as sakura, the cherry blossom has been cherished in Japan since ancient times, first as a flower believed to carry the spirit of the mountain gods down to the rice fields in spring, and later as a symbol of new beginnings, fresh starts, and the fleeting beauty of a moment that cannot be held onto. Scattered rather than arranged, the blossoms carry that same old feeling forward, that what is most beautiful is often what passes quickest, and that the passing itself is worth honoring.
