Shippo Tsunagi, the Seven Treasures Lattice
Rows of overlapping circles stretch evenly across the golden silk, each quarter-turn of one circle meeting the next to form small petal-like shapes, with a tiny flower resting at every point where four circles meet. This repeating design, known as shippo tsunagi, takes its name from the Seven Treasures of Buddhist teaching, its interlocking rings likened to the way light plays across precious jewels. Because the circles link endlessly in every direction, the pattern has long been read as a wish for harmony and connection, one shape quietly giving rise to the next.
